I was sitting in my airplane seat, just after take off, making myself comfortable, when I noticed quite a few people coughing and sneezing in the cabin. My thought was that this was not a good environment for me, for a long overseas flight.
I did not want to get sick during my travels. Naturally I wished the sick people would have elected not to fly, but I can understand that sometimes you just have to fly somewhere. Whereas others don’t necessarily want to change their ticket if they have to pay a high penalty fee, or purchase another ticket.
Part of my travel planning is being prepared in advance, so I brought out my fabric bag, in which I keep small items during the flight. I reached in and grabbed my small container of lotion. I had put a couple of drops of essential oils in this little container. It was a blend of tea tree oil, lemon oil, and some others, which thieves would use during the medieval times of Bubonic plague, so that they wouldn’t get ill. There are even brand names after the thieves (made by Young Living) and the medieval times (made by Aura Cacia). Some of the others to use, could be eucalyptus oil, clove oil, peppermint oil, frankincense oil, lavender oil, orange oil, and the list goes on.
I applied the lotion to the skin on the inside my wrists, inside my elbows, behind the back of my knees, behind my ankles, behind my ears and near my nostrils. The cream soaks in easily to the thin parts of the skin on one’s body. I have personally found that this protects me from picking up any illnesses during flights. I also put it on before leaving for the airport, but then apply more during the flight.
The one time I forgot to bring my cream with these essential oils, I ended up getting a cold. From that point on, I always travel with them. Essential oils are not only something I use when flying, or dealing with jetlag, but use anytime when I think I might be coming down with an illness or most any body aches or problems.
Also, there are many different essential oils for many different purposes. I prefer the organic brands if possible. They should be combined with a carrier oil or lotion, and I prefer using a small amount of lotion when having to go on an airplane. So, if you aren’t familiar with using essential oils, I suggest trying one or two and see how you like it!
