It’s important to get as much information as possible, or put in any requests you may have, before you travel and stay in someone else’s home or owner’s vacation rental.
One important point – make sure you have all contact information, names, phone numbers, email addresses, etc., in case there is any kind of problem. Ensure that there is a number to call on the off hours, or late night, in case of an emergency.
I am always happy when I have this information, and especially one time. A water heater had broken in the apartment above, and was leaking into a storage closet of our apartment. It was late at night, but having the correct after hours contact information, someone was available to handle it.
Otherwise, it could have leaked all night long and have caused that part of the floor (our ceiling) to collapse into our apartment. The owners were very thankful that we contacted them immediately, otherwise it could have been a very costly repair. They even gave us a partial reimbursement for our accommodations!
Regardless of this small mishap, it was a great place to stay, convenient to theaters, museums, shops and restaurants! We had a very wonderful trip!
