Accommodation Conveniences – Washer, Dryer, Dishwasher, Detergent?
On January 29, 2019 by ClaireWhen looking for house, condo, or apartment accommodations, I always ask if there’s a dishwasher, a washing machine and a dryer. Also, I like to confirm that they’re working. Then it is convenient to do a load or two of laundry if you choose, during your trip. I don’t particularly care for washing dishes by hand (even if only for breakfast or lunch), so a dishwasher is also high on my priority list.
Bringing along a few of my own laundry detergent packets, ensures that I will not be caught empty handed. Sometimes there is no laundry detergent available or it has a strong fragrance. Then you must buy a large box which may cost a lot more than what you pay for it at home. Also there are small fragrance-free packets available to purchase, which are my preference.
If there is no detergent available and you didn’t bring any of your own, you may end up in an area with limited shopping and having to buy an unnecessarily large amount.
One time I was staying in a large, metropolitan city, where there were no convenient supermarkets nearby. The apartment where I was staying supplied one packet of dishwasher soap! When I got a “no” reply to my question about getting more supplied, I decided to go to the store to make that purchase.
After walking quite a distance, I found a small convenience store that sold a large container of the small, dishwasher detergent packets, for quite a high price. I guess they knew they had a corner on this market! I ended up buying it and only used a few more during my stay. Sometimes being a frugal person, I naturally decided to take the remaining packets with me back home!
From that point on, I started packing a few laundry detergent packets for myself. (I never ran into a dishwasher soap problem again.) They are small, light and convenient to take on any trip! It makes a much more pleasant stay for me!
An additional tip is to have your own disinfectant wipes, to clean off surfaces wherever you stay. These are also great for traveling on airplanes, buses, trains, or in the car.
